Recently, the Political Work Department of the Central Military Commission has deployed the direct selection and recruitment of military (police) officers for the 2026-2027 fiscal year.

What are the basic requirements for application?

According to relevant military policies, the direct selection and recruitment targets are primarily selected from the graduates of "Double First-Class" universities and disciplines who will graduate between December 2025 and June 2027. A small number of positions will also be selectively filled from graduates of non-"Double First-Class" universities who were admitted in the first batch.

Undergraduate students, master's students, and doctoral students must not exceed the ages of 24, 29, and 34, respectively. Among them, doctoral students in urgent need of work, as well as ethnic minorities and graduates who have served in active duty, may have their age limit relaxed by one year. Applicants must possess the physical and psychological conditions to perform their duties normally, participate in a physical examination organized by the military, and receive a qualified conclusion.

Applicants can check specific recruitment positions and standard conditions on the "Military Talent Network" from September 18 to September 30, 2026, and register online. Subsequently, relevant military units will organize assessments, physical examinations, political evaluations, and professional evaluations according to the recruitment procedures, ensuring fair and just selection to gather talented individuals for a strong military.

The assessment and evaluation of directly recruited officers will not organize training consultations, will not publish guidance materials, and will not set up so-called "internal" indicators. We urge all applicants to remain vigilant and not to fall for scams.

What is a directly recruited officer?

A directly recruited officer, formally known as "direct selection and recruitment of officers," is an important channel for the military to accurately absorb high-quality talent and optimize the structure of its personnel. Through direct selection and recruitment, it can broaden the pathways for talent selection and attract more outstanding individuals for the high-quality modernization of the military.

Once recruited, applicants become active-duty military personnel. The initial granting of military ranks for directly recruited individuals is executed according to relevant policy regulations: those who graduate with a bachelor's degree are granted the rank of second lieutenant; those who graduate with a master's degree are granted the rank of lieutenant; and those who graduate with a doctoral degree are granted the rank of captain. Recruited individuals enjoy military officer salary benefits, including basic salary, allowances, subsidies, spouse honorarium, and parental support allowances.

Directly recruited officers enjoy stable benefits, comprehensive welfare, and broad development prospects. Their training is organized and implemented uniformly within the military personnel training system, receiving education and training from military academies; the recruiting units can also leverage national and social resources to conduct other specialized training, helping officers continuously enhance their professional competence.

How to choose between military academies and direct recruitment of officers?

Many young people aspiring to serve in national defense often struggle between two paths to becoming officers: taking the college entrance examination to apply for military academies or completing their studies at local universities before participating in direct recruitment for officers. Both paths ultimately achieve the ideal of serving the country, with the same active-duty status and rank benefits, but the growth trajectories and selection rhythms differ. How should one plan based on their own ideals?

Directly applying to military academies vs. attending local universities and then direct recruitment, what are the pros and cons of each path?

Military observer Wei Dongxu explains that directly applying to military academies through the college entrance examination is a traditional and mature path to becoming a strong military talent. Students obtain military status upon enrollment, begin counting their military service time, and simultaneously engage in professional studies and military training during their time at school, establishing a sense of military mission early on. After graduation, they are uniformly assigned by the military to positions that protect the country.

On the other hand, directly recruiting graduates from local universities is an important measure for the military to absorb high-quality talent and gather strong military forces. Young people can first complete their professional studies at local universities, deepen their skills, and broaden their horizons, and after achieving academic success, they can then join the military. After recruitment, they are formally granted ranks and become active-duty officers. It is important to note that the recruitment plan for direct positions will be dynamically adjusted each year based on the needs of military construction, which carries a certain degree of uncertainty.

Which groups are more suitable for direct recruitment of officers?

Wei Dongxu indicates that, overall, young people who have long been determined to serve the country and are committed to rooting themselves in the military should prioritize applying to military academies; those who love national defense, have a military sentiment, and wish to solidify their academic foundation before integrating their personal development into national defense construction are more suited for the direct recruitment of officers.
