The French National Assembly passed a bill on the 19th aimed at increasing the defense budget by a total of 36 billion euros before 2030. The next step for the bill is to be reviewed and voted on by the Senate.
According to the seven-year budget plan issued by France in 2023, the total defense budget from 2024 to 2030 is set at 400 billion euros. The new bill raises this figure to 436 billion euros. Among them, the defense budget for 2030 will reach 76.3 billion euros, an increase of 8.9 billion euros from the original plan, which is expected to account for 2.5% of the gross domestic product at that time.
French Defense Minister Sébastien Lecornu stated on social media that the bill aims to respond to the calls from the military, support the defense industry, and prepare for future strategic challenges.
