Recently, a firepower detachment of a certain unit in the Xinjiang Military Region conducted a live-fire exercise with vehicle-mounted howitzers in unfamiliar desert terrain, testing the unit's rapid response, precise coordination, and accurate destruction capabilities in comprehensive combat effectiveness.

At the beginning of the exercise, the firepower detachment advanced towards targets located dozens of kilometers away using a multi-pronged approach with alternating cover. Along the way, the control group set up various unexpected situations, such as electromagnetic interference and small-scale enemy harassment. The commander quickly assessed the situation, organized a response, and arrived at the firing position on time. Meanwhile, the reconnaissance team conducted close reconnaissance of the target area, determining target coordinates and distances, and relaying the information back to the command post in real-time.

The soldiers deployed the artillery based on the terrain. The gunner quickly installed the aiming device and adjusted the gun barrel to direct fire mode. The loader unsealed the ammunition, combined it with the fuse, and completed the pre-firing preparations.

Direct fire shooting involves using a direct sighting scope to fire at visible targets, testing the soldiers' rapid, precise, and close-range response capabilities. After the first round of strikes, each gun crew quickly withdrew and maneuvered to the reserve position. Upon reaching the new position, the guns rapidly entered firing status, and the soldiers autonomously selected ammunition types and propellant based on on-site instructions, conducting single-gun strikes on multiple targets in waves.
