On May 16, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces and First Deputy Minister of Defense, Gerasimov, inspected the "Western" Group of Forces and stated in his speech that 85% of the area of Liman (referred to as Lyman by Ukraine) in the Donetsk region is under the control of the Russian military, and urban combat is still ongoing.
He pointed out that the Russian "Western" Group of Forces is launching offensives within a responsibility area approximately 350 kilometers wide, and after fully controlling the Luhansk region, they are advancing westward towards Kharkiv Oblast.
