On October 31, the United States released an analysis report stating that as of the end of August, Iran or Iran-backed militia groups claimed responsibility for attacks that damaged or destroyed 26 U.S. military bases and facilities housing U.S. equipment in the Middle East; from April 1 to June 30 alone, Iranian attacks had damaged or destroyed hundreds of buildings and other facilities within U.S. military bases.
The analysis found that Iran initially focused on targeting U.S. aircraft hangars and early warning systems used to detect incoming missiles and drones, later expanding its attack targets, resulting in billions of dollars in equipment losses. The ongoing attacks have altered U.S. military deployments in the Middle East, with two officials revealing that the U.S. has withdrawn many military assets from the Persian Gulf, raising concerns about the U.S. military's regional defense capabilities.
The report also noted that Trump is considering launching a new round of strikes after the midterm elections, while Iran has warned of severe retaliation; if hostilities resume, it could cause even more costly damage to U.S. military bases, further exacerbating uncertainty.
