Admiral Makarov

Admiral Makarov was completed as a later Project 11356M frigate for the Russian Navy. The ship belongs to the same Grigorovich-class family designed to strengthen the Black Sea Fleet with modern sensors, missiles, and helicopter-supported anti-submarine capability. Its delivery came as Russia sought to maintain regional naval presence with a limited number of high-value surface ships.

Like its sister ships, Admiral Makarov uses a medium-displacement hull fitted with vertical-launch strike missiles, gun armament, close defence systems, anti-submarine weapons, and aviation facilities. This gives the ship a mix of escort, strike, patrol, and sea-control roles. Its combat value is high relative to its size because long-range missiles allow it to influence targets far beyond local waters.

Admiral Makarov became strategically notable after the loss of larger Russian Black Sea Fleet assets, because the remaining missile frigates carried both symbolic and operational weight.
