Tandem-rotor assault support helicopter for Marines and Navy
The CH-46 Sea Knight was developed to move troops, cargo, and supplies from ships and forward bases.
The Boeing Vertol CH-46 Sea Knight was a tandem-rotor medium transport helicopter widely associated with U.S. Marine Corps assault support. Its role was moving personnel, cargo, and equipment in expeditionary settings, especially between ship and shore. The aircraft became so familiar to Marine aviation that its nickname, Phrog, remained part of its service identity through retirement.
