Boeing CH-47 Chinook

The CH-47 Chinook was developed from Vertol tandem-rotor transport concepts and became one of the most enduring heavy-lift helicopters in military service. Its tandem rotors avoid the need for a tail rotor and provide useful lift, stability, and a large rear loading area. Continuous modernization by Boeing has kept the family relevant through several generations of engines, avionics, and structural upgrades.

Chinook design centers on moving troops, vehicles, artillery, pallets, and underslung loads in conditions where fixed-wing aircraft or ground transport cannot work. The rear ramp supports rapid loading, while external hooks allow large sling-load missions. Modern CH-47F and Block II improvements enhance avionics, structure, drivetrain performance, and payload margins.
