Research Notes

Sea-skimming strike with land-attack growth

Modern RBS15 variants emphasize long reach, low-altitude sea-skimming flight, active terminal seeking, and operation in complex littoral environments. Later Gungnir-family systems also highlight growth into land-attack and flexible target-set roles, giving the same missile family broader utility than a narrow open-ocean anti-ship weapon.

Important for Baltic and coastal denial

RBS-15 is strategically relevant because it matches the geography of Sweden and other coastal users. Mobile launchers, aircraft, and missile craft can create overlapping threat zones in archipelagos and confined seas. The missile's deterrent effect depends on target detection, launch survivability, and coordinated salvos rather than missile performance alone.
