B-47 Stratojet

The B-47 Stratojet was one of the defining early jet strategic bombers of the U.S. Air Force. Its swept wings, podded jet engines, and high-subsonic performance influenced later large aircraft design as much as its operational service. The type helped move Strategic Air Command from piston bomber assumptions into the jet age.

The B-47 was designed for high-altitude, high-speed penetration at a time when air defenses were rapidly improving.
