E-2 Hawkeye

The E-2 Hawkeye family was built around a carrier-specific problem: giving naval task forces airborne early warning and command-and-control from a compact aircraft able to operate from aircraft carriers. Later E-2C and E-2D versions continued the same mission with progressively improved sensors and battle-management capability. This makes the Hawkeye one of the core enablers of carrier aviation.

The E-2D Advanced Hawkeye adds modern radar, mission computing, and networking for detection, tracking, and command-and-control over maritime forces. Its value is not weapons carriage; it extends the awareness and coordination of the carrier air wing.
