The M270 Multiple Launch Rocket System is a tracked, armored rocket artillery launcher developed for the U.S. Army and allied forces. It provides concentrated long-range fires from a mobile platform and can launch both guided rockets and larger tactical missiles from interchangeable launch pods.
The M270 can fire Guided MLRS rockets for precision artillery missions and Army Tactical Missile System rounds for deeper strike. Modernized M270A2 launchers extend the platform's relevance by improving fire control, automotive systems, and compatibility with newer munitions such as Precision Strike Missile.
The system matters because ground commanders need accurate fires beyond tube-artillery range without relying entirely on aircraft. M270 units can disperse, fire quickly, and move, giving NATO and partner armies a survivable way to attack headquarters, air defenses, logistics nodes, and enemy artillery.
