Research Notes

Large subsonic missile for missile boats and coastal batteries

The Termit was not a compact weapon, but it gave small combatants and coastal-defense units a serious standoff strike capability against larger warships. Its guidance and flight profile were primitive by later standards, yet its payload and reach made it disruptive in littoral warfare.

Export success with major doctrinal impact

The missile's combat reputation helped validate the missile-boat concept and forced navies to treat small surface craft as serious threats. Later anti-ship missiles became faster, smaller, and harder to intercept, but Termit established the practical model for massed coastal and patrol-boat missile attacks.
