TN 75

The TN 75 is a French thermonuclear warhead associated with the M45 submarine-launched ballistic missile and later early M51 configurations. It replaced earlier warhead generations as France modernized the sea-based portion of its nuclear deterrent. The warhead is part of the broader transition from Redoutable-era systems to the Triomphant-class deterrent force.

Public descriptions associate TN 75 with multiple independently targetable or multiple reentry vehicle payloads on French SLBMs. The exact design details remain classified, but its role required compactness, reliability, and compatibility with missile reentry vehicles and penetration aids. The system is therefore best understood as a strategic payload component, not a standalone weapon platform.

Operationally, TN 75 formed part of France's at-sea nuclear deterrent, deployed aboard ballistic missiles carried by strategic submarines. Its value was deterrent credibility: survivable patrol submarines, secure command arrangements, and missile readiness. Later French modernization introduced newer warheads and missile variants while preserving the same sea-based deterrence logic.
