Iranian Shoulder-Fired Air-Defense Lineage
mediumMisagh-2 is an Iranian man-portable air-defense missile associated with Chinese QW-series design influence and local production.
Misagh-2 belongs to Iran's family of shoulder-launched surface-to-air missiles intended to give infantry, air-defense detachments and mobile units a portable response to low-flying aircraft. Public descriptions commonly link the system to Chinese QW-series technology, with Iran adapting the concept into a domestic production line. The point of the program was not to create a strategic air-defense weapon, but to provide a distributed, inexpensive and locally supportable short-range threat to helicopters, attack aircraft, UAVs and transport aircraft operating at low altitude. In Iranian service, this kind of weapon also fits a broader doctrine of layered denial, where many small air-defense teams complicate enemy air operations.
