Eitan adds a faster wheeled complement to Israel’s heavy tracked APC force.
Eitan is Israel’s wheeled armored personnel carrier developed by the Ministry of Defense Tank and APC Directorate. The first series deliveries to the IDF Nahal Brigade mark a shift toward a faster wheeled platform that complements, rather than replaces, heavy tracked vehicles such as Namer.
Eitan offers protected troop transport with wheeled speed and lower operating burden than heavy tracked APCs.
Eitan capability is based on combining protection, mobility and operational availability. A wheeled APC can move quickly on roads and requires less transport support than very heavy tracked vehicles. For Israel, that gives commanders another option between light vehicles and the heavily protected Namer.
The platform shows Israel diversifying armored mobility after years of relying on heavier tracked solutions.
Eitan’s service context is important because it reflects a force mix decision. Israel still values heavy protection, but also needs wheeled mobility for rapid deployment, border security and urban operations. That makes Eitan a significant modernization step in Israeli ground forces.
