LAR-160 is an Israeli multiple launch rocket system built around 160 mm artillery rockets.
LAR-160 is an Israeli-developed multiple launch rocket system associated with IMI/Israeli defense industry development. Army Guide and Military Today both describe LAR-160 as a 160 mm multiple rocket launcher system. The current MRL category is appropriate.
The system can be mounted on different truck chassis and uses podded launch containers for 160 mm rockets.
LAR-160's value comes from modularity and concentrated salvo fire. Podded launch packs simplify reload and integration with different vehicles. Compared with tube artillery, the system can deliver a larger volume of fire quickly, though rocket accuracy and logistics depend on munition type and fire-control modernization.
LAR-160 matters because it gave customers a flexible medium-range rocket-artillery capability.
The system can support suppression, area denial, and deep fire against soft or semi-fixed targets. Its effectiveness improves with better fire-control, reconnaissance, and guided rocket options. Like other MLRS systems, it is vulnerable to counter-battery detection if crews do not relocate quickly after firing.
