Israeli conformal-array AEW&C system

medium

Phalcon was developed by IAI and Elta as an airborne early warning and control mission suite using active phased arrays.

The EL/M-2075 Phalcon is an Israeli airborne early warning and control system developed by Israel Aerospace Industries and Elta. It was publicly revealed in the early 1990s and represented an alternative to the classic rotating radar dome by using conformal active electronically scanned arrays installed around the host aircraft.

L-band AESA radar and mission suite

medium

The system integrates radar, identification, electronic intelligence, communications intelligence, and command-and-control functions.

Phalcon is not just a radar antenna; it is an AEW&C mission system. The EL/M-2075 uses L-band solid-state phased arrays mounted on aircraft such as a Boeing 707, with additional mission equipment for surveillance, identification, intelligence collection, and command support. Later Israeli AEW&C systems such as EL/W-2085 and EL/W-2090 evolved from the same design logic.

Air superiority and surveillance enabler

medium

Phalcon supports long-range air-picture generation, fighter control, and tactical surveillance.

Operationally, Phalcon-type systems give commanders an airborne radar picture beyond the range and geometry of ground sensors. They can detect and track aircraft and surface targets, coordinate fighters, and support intelligence gathering. Israeli development of Phalcon also became significant in export AEW&C programmes, including later Indian systems based on IAI/Elta technology.
