Wheeled IFV derived from Centauro experience
Freccia turns Italian Centauro-family experience into an 8x8 infantry fighting vehicle.
Freccia was developed by the Iveco-Oto Melara consortium as an 8x8 wheeled infantry fighting vehicle for the Italian Army. It drew on automotive and layout experience from the Centauro family while addressing the need to replace older M113-derived vehicles in medium brigades. The vehicle reflects Italy's preference for highly mobile wheeled armored formations alongside tracked heavy units.
