The Ōsumi class of tank landing ships, used by the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force, are designed for amphibious transport rather than traditional landing ship roles, featuring a well deck and flat-top upper decks resembling small aircraft carriers. They support troop transport, equipment delivery, and humanitarian assistance within Japan, and have been refitted to accommodate MV-22 Osprey aircraft and AAV7 amphibious vehicles.
