Longer-range Indian SLBM under development
mediumK-4 is intended to give India's ballistic-missile submarines a much larger target envelope than K-15.
K-4 is a submarine-launched ballistic missile associated with India's effort to improve the reach and credibility of its sea-based nuclear deterrent. Open-source missile references describe it as a longer-range system than K-15, commonly associated with the Arihant-class and follow-on submarine force. Its purpose is strategic rather than tactical: to allow a submarine force to hold targets at risk from safer patrol areas.
