Amphibious aviation ship

Dokdo is South Korea's landing platform helicopter class, providing amphibious lift and helicopter support.

The Dokdo class gives the Republic of Korea Navy a large amphibious platform capable of carrying troops, vehicles, helicopters, and landing craft. It supports amphibious operations, disaster response, command functions, and maritime presence. The lead ship ROKS Dokdo became a symbol of Korea's move toward larger expeditionary naval platforms.

Sea-based lift and command

The class combines a flight deck, vehicle spaces, landing craft support, and command facilities for amphibious operations.

Amphibious ships are valuable because they carry forces and sustain them from the sea. Dokdo-class ships can support helicopter movement, landing craft operations, vehicle transport, and command coordination. Those capabilities are useful for island defence, crisis response, evacuation, and humanitarian operations as well as wartime assault planning.

Strategic relevance

Dokdo matters because amphibious lift is central to Korean peninsula contingencies and overseas naval presence.

For HiWars, Dokdo is more than a large ship. It represents Korea's ability to move forces by sea, manage complex joint operations, and respond to disasters or crises with a visible naval platform. That makes it an important part of Korean maritime power projection.
