Long-Range Soviet Field Gun
The 2A36 was introduced to give Soviet artillery greater counter-battery and deep-fire reach.
The 2A36 Giatsint-B entered service in the 1970s as a 152 mm towed field gun intended to outrange older Soviet artillery pieces. It complemented howitzers by emphasizing velocity, flatter trajectories, and long-range fires. The system reflected late Cold War pressure to improve divisional and army-level artillery reach against NATO batteries, command posts, and rear-area targets.
