Project 11356M frigate for the Black Sea Fleet

Admiral Grigorovich led Russia's Project 11356M frigate renewal for the Black Sea Fleet.

Admiral Grigorovich is the lead ship of Russia's Project 11356M frigate class for the Black Sea Fleet. The design builds on the Talwar/Project 11356 export lineage and was intended to give Russia a modern medium frigate with anti-surface, anti-submarine, and air-defence capability. Its commissioning was part of a broader attempt to refresh Black Sea Fleet surface combatants.

Kalibr-capable multi-role frigate

Project 11356 combines medium-frigate sensors with Kalibr strike and escort weapons.

Project 11356 frigates combine a 100 mm gun, vertical launch strike missiles, air-defence systems, anti-submarine weapons, sensors, and helicopter facilities. The Kalibr-capable vertical launcher is central to the class's strategic profile because it allows land-attack and anti-ship missions from a medium hull. The design balances export-derived maturity with Russian combat-system integration.

Black Sea presence and missile-strike role

Admiral Grigorovich is important as both a Black Sea escort and missile-strike platform.

Admiral Grigorovich became one of the more visible Russian surface combatants in the Black Sea region. Its service significance comes from the combination of local sea-control duties and long-range missile strike potential. The class also shows the vulnerability of modern naval planning to engine supply, industrial limits, and wartime operating constraints.
