Development History
mediumPP-90M1 is a later KBP submachine gun unrelated in layout to the folding PP-90.
Despite its name, PP-90M1 is not simply a folded-body PP-90 modernization. It was developed by KBP in the 1990s as a more conventional 9x19 mm submachine gun and is often compared with the PP-19 Bizon because of its helical-magazine option. The design reflected Russian interest in compact, high-capacity weapons for police and special units. It also showed a move toward 9x19 mm ammunition rather than older 9x18 mm Makarov for new Russian submachine-gun designs.
