Barrett M99

The Barrett Model 99 was developed as a simpler and more affordable heavy precision rifle compared with magazine-fed .50-caliber systems. Barrett's Model 99 manual identifies it as a single-shot bolt-action rifle, while reference sources describe its bullpup layout and long-range accuracy reputation. The design targeted users who valued precision and simplicity over rapid follow-up shots.

M99 design removes the magazine system to make the rifle mechanically simple and rigid. A single-shot action can reduce complexity and support consistency, while the bullpup arrangement controls overall length. The rifle has been offered in large calibers such as .50 BMG and .416 Barrett, giving users a precision heavy rifle with fewer parts than semi-automatic alternatives.

In service and commercial use, the Model 99 fits a narrower role than the M107 or M82. It is suited to deliberate long-range shooting, training, and specialist anti-materiel-style applications where a single accurate shot is more important than rate of fire. The rifle also shows Barrett's effort to serve both military-adjacent and precision-shooting markets with the same heavy-caliber expertise.
