JetRanger name revived for a modern light single

The Bell 505 updates the light single-engine utility/training formula with modern avionics and a flexible flat-floor cabin.

The Bell 505 Jet Ranger X is a modern light single that deliberately connects to Bell's JetRanger heritage while replacing older cockpit and cabin assumptions. Bell markets it for utility, corporate, adventure, military training, public-safety, and HEMS roles, which is unusually broad for such a small aircraft. Its significance is in lowering operating complexity while adding a glass cockpit, modern engine management, and cabin flexibility. For equipment-page quality, the 505 should be framed as a training and light-utility platform rather than as a battlefield helicopter.

Flat-floor cabin and Garmin glass cockpit

The 505 pairs a 1+4 cabin, 125 kt cruise, 306 nm range, and Garmin G1000H-style avionics with simple light-helicopter operation.

Bell's published data gives the 505 a 1+4 seating layout, 125 kt maximum cruise, 306 nm range under listed conditions, and more than 3.9 hours endurance at 60 KIAS without reserves. The design uses a flat floor with tie-downs, removable seats, double cargo doors, and a glass cockpit intended to reduce pilot workload. Its two-blade metal rotor and efficient engine package keep the aircraft in the short light single category, but the cockpit and cabin make it more useful than older purely analog trainers.

Training and utility fleet role with growing delivery base

More than a niche private helicopter, the 505 has been delivered in large numbers and used for training and public-service missions.

Bell has highlighted more than 500 Bell 505 deliveries and over 100,000 fleet flight hours, giving the aircraft a meaningful operational record for a recent light helicopter. The type's role in military training discussions is especially relevant: it offers a familiar light-helicopter feel with newer avionics, making it a candidate for basic and instrument training pipelines. Civil operators also use the aircraft for patrol, personal transport, utility work, and short-range support missions. Its value is therefore fleet economics and training relevance, not heavy payload or combat survivability.
