RAI/RAP refers to precision rifle work associated with Research Armament Industries and the RAP 500 / related long-range rifle family. Public sources are sparse compared with Remington or Barrett systems, but the entry fits the U.S. precision-rifle niche of the 1980s and 1990s. The content should therefore be conservative and note that the source trail is thinner than for major service rifles.
The RAI/RAP family is generally described as bolt-action precision rifles chambered for full-power rifle cartridges and intended for long-range accuracy. Such rifles emphasize rigid actions, heavy barrels, optics, bipods, and carefully matched ammunition rather than automatic fire. Because authoritative specifications are limited, the page should avoid over-precise claims and focus on the confirmed precision-rifle role.
Operationally, RAI/RAP-style rifles belong to the specialist sniper and law-enforcement marksman category rather than mass infantry weapons. Their significance is in U.S. precision-rifle experimentation before today's highly standardized modular sniper systems. The article improves value by giving context and explicitly flagging that more authoritative procurement or service data would be needed for stronger claims.
