On July 19, Xinhua News Agency reported from Washington (Reporter Xu Jianmei) that the U.S. Central Command stated on social media that a U.S. service member died on the 18th while carrying out a mission related to Iran in northern Iraq.
The statement said that U.S. forces were conducting a controlled detonation of munitions carried by a downed Iranian one-way attack drone at the time, and that the service member died during the operation, while another U.S. service member sustained minor injuries.
Additionally, U.S. forces are searching in Jordan for a U.S. service member who went missing after an Iranian attack on the 17th, and unidentified remains have been found, with identification and verification work currently underway.
