Chad's Military Enters "Highest State of Alert" in Response to Attacks from Sudan
Xinhua News Agency, Yaoundé, March 18 (Reporter Wang Ze) N'Djamena news: The Chadian presidential office issued a statement on the evening of the 18th, saying that drones from Sudan attacked Chadian territory on the evening of the 18th, resulting in multiple casualties. Chadian President and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces Mahamat Déby urgently ordered the troops to enter a "highest alert status" to retaliate against any attacks from the direction of Sudan.
The statement said that the Chadian president also ordered the complete closure of the 1,300-kilometer border between Chad and Sudan. He instructed the Prime Minister to send a government delegation to the scene to assess the casualties and property damage.
According to Chadian media reports, drones from Sudan attacked the border town of Tine on the evening of the 18th, resulting in at least 16 Chadian civilians dead.
The Chadian government issued a communiqué on February 23, stating that due to repeated incursions and violations by various parties in the Sudan conflict into Chadian territory, Chad closed all cross-border passages with Sudan, but special circumstances for humanitarian reasons may be allowed to pass with prior approval from the competent authorities.
