Drunk Driving and Brawling: Multiple U.S. Soldiers Stationed in Japan Arrested

According to the Japanese police, on the 6th local time, a U.S. Marine Corps soldier stationed in Okinawa City, Okinawa Prefecture, was arrested for allegedly driving a vehicle under the influence. This soldier is assigned to the U.S. military's Camp Schwab, and at the time of the incident, his breath alcohol test exceeded the legal limit; however, he denied the police's accusations. Currently, local police have launched a detailed investigation into the case.

On the 5th, two other U.S. military soldiers stationed in Okinawa City were arrested by the police for allegedly pushing and assaulting several local residents in the street. It is reported that these two soldiers were intoxicated at the time of the incident and are facing charges of assault.

For a long time, crimes involving U.S. forces stationed in Japan have been frequent, including serious cases such as murder, rape, and robbery. In just 2025, the Okinawa Prefectural Police solved over 100 criminal cases involving U.S. military personnel and related individuals. According to the Japan-U.S. Status of Forces Agreement, if a U.S. service member is suspected of a crime in Japan, the U.S. has priority jurisdiction, and cases involving U.S. military personnel often go unresolved.
