Iranian Media Reveals Reasons for Iran's Refusal to Attend Pakistan Talks

Xinhua News Agency, Tehran, April 21 - According to a report from the Iranian Tasnim News Agency on the evening of the 21st, Iran has refused to attend the second round of talks between Iran and the U.S. scheduled for the 22nd in Islamabad, Pakistan, mainly due to the U.S. repeatedly violating its commitments.

The report cites sources saying that just a few days after reaching a ceasefire agreement earlier this month, the U.S. began to violate its commitments. The U.S. did not demand that Israel implement a ceasefire in Lebanon, which created serious obstacles for the Iran-U.S. negotiations.

The report points out that Pakistan initially intervened to mediate based on a 10-point framework proposed by Iran. During the first round of talks in Islamabad, the U.S. made many excessive demands that violated this framework, leading to a deadlock in the discussions.

The report also states that after the U.S. pressured Israel to implement a ceasefire in Lebanon, Iran announced the opening of the Strait of Hormuz within the agreed ceasefire framework, allowing commercial vessels to pass. However, the U.S. military has imposed a blockade on maritime traffic in and out of Iranian ports. In recent days, the U.S. has insisted on making excessive demands that infringe on the rights of the Iranian people, resulting in no substantial progress in communication between the two sides.

The report says that under the current circumstances, Iran's participation in negotiations is purely a waste of time. The Iranian side announced its decision through Pakistan. In order to uphold the rights of the Iranian people, Iran will not go to Pakistan.
