Israel says it will not provide funding to the so-called "Peace Committee"

On the 22nd local time, reporters from the Central Station learned that Israel has notified the U.S. government that it will not provide funding for the so-called "Peace Committee" established by U.S. President Trump.

Israeli Security Cabinet member Ze'ev Elkin confirmed the news during an interview that day. He stated that Israel "has no reason" to provide funding for the committee and said, "Israel is under attack and should not bear the costs of rebuilding Gaza."

Some Israeli government officials revealed that this decision is also related to domestic political considerations in Israel. The decision is seen as helping to appease the far-right Israeli Minister of National Security Itamar Ben-Gvir and Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich. Previously, both of them did not support Israel's participation in the "Peace Committee," particularly expressing reservations about Israel's joint involvement with Turkey and Qatar in the "Peace Committee."

The Israeli Prime Minister's Office issued a statement on January 21, saying that Prime Minister Netanyahu has accepted U.S. President Trump's invitation to join the so-called "Peace Committee" to oversee the post-war transitional governance of the Palestinian Gaza Strip.

The U.S. government recently announced the establishment of the so-called "Peace Committee" and invited multiple countries to join.
