Israeli Airstrike in Southern Beirut, Jihad Commander in Lebanon Killed in Attack

Xinhua News Agency, Beirut, March 2 (Reporter Cao Changhao, Shen Feng) According to a report from the Lebanese National News Agency on the 2nd, the Palestinian Islamic Jihad Organization (Jihad) announced that its military branch commander, Azam Osman, was killed in an Israeli airstrike on the southern suburbs of Beirut, the capital of Lebanon.

Previously, according to reports from Lebanon's New TV, Israel conducted airstrikes on the Jena and Bir Hassan areas in the southern suburbs of Beirut on the evening of the 2nd. This was the first airstrike by the Israeli military near the city of Beirut since the ceasefire agreement was reached between Lebanon and Israel in November 2024.

Reports indicate that the Israeli military launched more than six airstrikes on the southern suburb of Dahiyeh that afternoon and carried out dozens of strikes on several villages in southern Lebanon. Videos circulating on social media show severe destruction in Dahiyeh and several towns in southern Lebanon.

The latest data released by the Lebanese Ministry of Health shows that Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon have resulted in 52 deaths and 154 injuries in the country. Lebanon's Minister of Social Affairs, Haneen Saeed, stated that 171 shelters have been opened across Lebanon, and approximately 29,000 people are currently housed in these shelters.
