On the afternoon of the 5th local time, the Israel Defense Forces issued a statement saying that in an airstrike operation against Tehran, the capital of Iran, on the 3rd, they killed Mohammad Reza Ashrafi Kahi, a senior commander in the oil department of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

The statement said that the oil department of the Revolutionary Guard supports the continued operation and military capability building of the Revolutionary Guard by circumventing international sanctions through profits generated from oil sales.

The statement pointed out that Ashrafi managed the commercial operations of the oil department, with an estimated annual trade volume of several billion dollars. He promoted the military capability development of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and its proxies in the Middle East, with primary targets including the Houthi movement in Yemen, Hezbollah in Lebanon, and Hamas.

The IDF also stated that these activities fund the Revolutionary Guard's ballistic missile and drone formations, which are used to launch attacks on Israeli territory and Gulf countries, as well as to target oil infrastructure in the region.

The IDF indicated that this operation is another significant development following the removal of Jamshid Eshaqi, the commander of the Iranian Armed Forces' oil headquarters, and is seen as a further blow to the economic foundation of Iran's security system.

There has been no response from Iran on this matter. (Reporter: Liang Hui, Wang Yin)
