On the 7th local time, the Israel Defense Forces and the Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) issued a joint statement stating that the Israeli military recently killed a commander of a Hamas "Nukhba" elite unit in airstrikes in both the northern and southern Gaza Strip, as well as a commander from Hamas's military intelligence department.

The statement noted that the killed "Nukhba" unit commander, Ahmad Yahya Ibrahim Batash, had long been involved in planning attacks against Israeli military forces; the other deceased, Hamuda Abu Daka, was responsible for gathering intelligence on Israeli forces and participated in planning and executing attacks against them.
