On May 8 local time, reporters from the Central Station learned that sources revealed the Israel Defense Forces have entered the highest state of alert for their troops within Lebanon and along the temporary border with Lebanon.
Sources indicated that this move is a preparation for retaliatory attacks against Hezbollah following the death of the commander of its elite Radwan Unit.
On the 7th, the Israel Defense Forces issued a statement announcing that they had killed Ahmad Galib Balout, the commander of Hezbollah's Radwan Unit, in an airstrike targeting the Lebanese capital, Beirut, on the 6th. The statement also mentioned that Hezbollah's commander responsible for air defense, Hussein Roumani, and intelligence officer Muhammad Bazi were also killed in this attack.
The statement further revealed that in the past week, the Israeli military has attacked over 180 Hezbollah buildings and facilities.
According to Israeli sources, the attack on the 6th was the first military action against the Lebanese capital, Beirut, since April 8.
