Lebanese Army Accuses Israel of Violating Framework Agreement with Ongoing Attacks on Lebanon
Xinhua News Agency, Beirut, August 12 (Reporter Shen Feng, Cao Changhao) The Lebanese Armed Forces issued a statement on the 12th, saying that Israel continues to violate the existing framework agreement and international law, launching ongoing attacks in southern Lebanon and destroying multiple buildings, hindering local residents from returning home and the deployment of the Lebanese Army.
The statement said that the Israeli military recently destroyed the administrative building in the town of Eastern Zawtar in southern Lebanon, as well as a public school, a clinic, a kindergarten, and several residential buildings in the town.
The statement indicated that these attacks demonstrate Israel's ongoing destructive actions, attempting to cause as much damage as possible to the villages and towns in southern Lebanon, obstructing the establishment of stability in the area.
On June 26, the trilateral talks between Lebanon, Israel, and the United States concluded in Washington, D.C., announcing the achievement of a framework agreement. According to the agreement, the Israeli military is to withdraw from certain areas in southern Lebanon, with the Lebanese Army taking over local security affairs. However, since the agreement was reached, the Israeli military has repeatedly launched military strikes against targets within Lebanon.
The Lebanese Hezbollah has strongly opposed the Lebanon-Israel talks. Hezbollah has repeatedly stated that as long as the Israeli side continues to occupy southern Lebanon, it will continue to "resist," while also expressing support for the Lebanese Army's deployment to areas south of the Litani River, emphasizing that the Israeli military must completely withdraw from Lebanese territory.
The Israeli military stated on August 5 that in response to Hezbollah's "blatant violation" of the ceasefire agreement, it began airstrikes in southern Lebanon.
