Jiang Bin: From July 8 to 10, the fourth China-ASEAN Defense Think Tank Exchange Activity was successfully held in Kunming, Yunnan. This event was themed “Practicing the Asian Security Model: China and ASEAN Join Hands to Address Global Changes,” with topics covering the Asian paradigm for resolving regional disputes, maritime security and the construction of a maritime community with a shared future, enhancing strategic mutual trust through pragmatic cooperation, and future-oriented defense and security cooperation. About 150 defense officials and think tank scholars from China and 11 ASEAN countries attended. Representatives generally agreed that the Asian security model of “shared security, seeking common ground while reserving differences, and dialogue and consultation” abandons the traditional security view of zero-sum games, pursues common security, and is of great significance for building security consensus among countries and maintaining peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region; the more the international situation changes, the more regional countries need to steady the course of cooperation and jointly build a win-win path.

This year marks the 35th anniversary of the establishment of dialogue relations between China and ASEAN, as well as the 5th anniversary of the establishment of a comprehensive strategic partnership. We are willing to work with ASEAN countries to uphold peace as our greatest common interest, adhere to dialogue rather than confrontation, partner without forming alliances, and join hands to address various security challenges, contributing wisdom and strength to jointly build a peaceful, secure, prosperous, beautiful, and friendly “five homes.”
