Multinational Forces to Practice Troop Deployment After the Ukraine War

Report Content

According to a report by Reference News on October 19, the British newspaper The Times reported on October 16 that hundreds of British soldiers will head to Poland next month to practice the deployment of forces to Ukraine following the implementation of a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine. This is the first exercise specifically aimed at the post-war situation in Ukraine, simulating the deterrent role of European ground forces entering the region.

Military personnel from several countries, including France and Germany, will simulate the deployment of troops as well as logistics such as food and fuel, which is part of a multinational peacekeeping operation.

It is understood that at least 1,500 British, French, and German soldiers will participate in the exercise alongside Polish troops.

This exercise was initially agreed upon at a summit held in Paris in July of this year.

A military source stated that participants will simulate the scenario of "multinational forces coordinating deployment in the same area," but declined to provide further details.

UK Defense Secretary Ben Wallace said in Washington: "Next month, thousands of personnel will participate in a large exercise in Poland to ensure we are always ready to support Ukraine with the military training and post-war reconstruction it needs."

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated that the participation of the UK and France is "crucial" and will help the volunteer alliance prepare to provide security for Ukraine and the broader Central and Eastern European region.

A senior Polish official said that this exercise will demonstrate the unity of major European military powers in the face of the Russian threat, while also highlighting the ongoing necessity of supporting Ukraine.

The UK and France are the leading countries in the alliance and have urged other nations to join, but some countries are reluctant to commit to deploying troops to Ukraine. (Translated by Liu Xiaoyan)
