On the occasion of the 29th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to the motherland, a naval fleet consisting of the Chinese People's Liberation Army Navy missile destroyer Nanning and missile frigate Hengyang, along with onboard helicopters and Marine Corps personnel, arrived in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region on the morning of July 2, starting a series of open visits and cultural exchange activities lasting five days. The Hong Kong SAR government held a welcome ceremony for the fleet at the Stonecutters Island military camp.

On the morning of July 2, the Chinese People's Liberation Army Navy frigate Hengyang sailed towards Victoria Harbour.
At around 7 a.m. on the 2nd, the fleet entered Victoria Harbour in a column formation, accompanied by the Hong Kong SAR government fleet and vessels from the stationed troops in Hong Kong. By around 10 a.m., the Hengyang and Nanning ships successively docked, and leaders and representatives of the Southern Theater Navy and the fleet stepped onto the dock at the Stonecutters Island military camp. Leaders from relevant departments of the Hong Kong SAR government and central government agencies stationed in Hong Kong, representatives of the stationed troops, and Hong Kong citizens and youth were present to welcome them.

After the welcome ceremony began, all personnel sang the national anthem. The Chief Executive of the Hong Kong SAR, John Lee, delivered a speech, warmly welcoming the arrival of the naval fleet on behalf of the Hong Kong SAR government and its citizens. Leaders and representatives from the central government agencies stationed in Hong Kong, the Southern Theater, the Southern Theater Navy, and the stationed troops attended the welcome ceremony and boarded the Nanning and Hengyang for a visit.

This is the first time the Nanning and Hengyang have come to Hong Kong to carry out a series of open visits and cultural exchange activities. From the 3rd to the 5th, the Nanning and Hengyang will be open to the public, including residents of Hong Kong and Macau, as well as youth students, at the Stonecutters Island military camp dock, and will conduct interactive exchange activities such as military experiences, training demonstrations, and cultural performances, allowing compatriots from Hong Kong and Macau to gain a close and comprehensive understanding of the development of national defense and military construction in the new era.
