Next-Generation Fighter Jets from Japan, the UK, and Italy Unveiled at the Farnborough Airshow

Against the backdrop of ongoing tensions in the Middle East and the continuing Russia-Ukraine conflict, the exhibition of defense equipment such as drones is particularly active. Japan, the UK, and Italy showcased models of next-generation fighter jets (as shown in the picture), intending to demonstrate their technological capabilities to the world. The three countries also hope to expand the market for their fighter jets to alleviate the burden of enormous development costs.

The next-generation fighter jets aim to be deployed by 2035, but the UK's related defense investment plans have yet to materialize, raising concerns in the industry that the project's development progress may be hindered.

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Kawasaki Heavy Industries, and Subaru also participated in the exhibition. American Boeing and European Airbus also exhibited, showcasing the most advanced civil airliners and military aircraft.

This year's exhibition will last until the 24th. The Farnborough International Airshow is held every two years, alternating with the Paris Air Show.

According to a report by NHK on July 21, the Farnborough International Airshow opened in the UK, with over 1,600 companies and organizations, including major aircraft manufacturers from around the world, participating in the exhibition.

The joint design joint venture,尖翼公司 (Sharp Wing Company), which is developing the next-generation fighter jet in collaboration with Japan, the UK, and Italy, set up a dedicated exhibition booth at the venue in conjunction with the international government organization for global operational air programs (GIGO) established by the three countries.

The R&D work is making solid progress." He believes the project is advancing smoothly according to the established schedule to ensure deployment by 2035.

At the venue, drones capable of performing combat support tasks such as attack and reconnaissance in coordination with fighter jets were also particularly eye-catching. American aerospace giant Boeing showcased an autonomous drone capable of carrying missiles with a range of over 3,500 kilometers, attracting significant attention.

Regarding Canada's expressed interest in joining the next-generation fighter jet program, GIGO head and former Japanese Defense Review Officer, Makoto Okamoto, stated, "From the beginning, Japan, the UK, and Italy have maintained an open attitude regarding the possibility of third-country participation or involvement, based on what is most beneficial for the program and aligns with our common interests."

When asked whether the inclusion of other countries would delay the fighter jet's service entry, Zoff responded, "The three governments have made strong demands for strict adherence to the schedule, and regardless of any new situations, we will find ways to respond, ensuring that the final delivery deadline is not jeopardized.
