RENK Group inaugurated three new machining centers at its Rheine, Germany facility Monday, part of a plan to more than triple the company’s annual transmission output by 2030, the company said.
RENK aims to grow production at its headquarters in Augsburg to exceed 2,000 transmission units per year by 2030. The company has been transferring production methods developed in Augsburg to its wider manufacturing network since 2025. Capacity at the Rheine site has grown by more than 30 percent annually over that period, and RENK is investing more than €20 million ($23 million) there through 2030.
“This capacity expansion is another step in systematically scaling up our global production system for series production,” said Dr. Emmerich Schiller, COO of RENK Group AG. “It involves transferring established methods from the automotive industry. That not only delivers significant efficiency gains, but above all provides robust processes that ensure our high level of quality even as production volumes increase.”
At Rheine, RENK’s third-largest plant, the new machining centers will produce components for the HSWL 256 gear type, which is also used in Germany’s Puma infantry fighting vehicle.
The Rheine expansion is part of a broader investment RENK has committed to under Germany’s “Made for Germany” initiative. The company plans to invest up to €325 million ($378 million) in Germany by 2028 across digitalization, innovation and capacity expansion.
RENK said the increased production capacity is intended to support NATO’s capability targets and ongoing modernization programs within the German Bundeswehr and allied militaries.
RENK Group, headquartered in Augsburg, manufactures propulsion systems including gear units, transmissions, power packs, hybrid propulsion systems, suspension systems, slide bearings, and couplings and clutches, serving military vehicle, naval and industrial customers. The company reported revenue of approximately €1.4 billion ($1.6 billion) in fiscal year 2025 and has been listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange since February 2024, joining the MDAX index in March 2025.
