On February 15, satellite images showed the U.S. aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln near the coast of Oman. On the same day, the U.S. also released footage of the USS Abraham Lincoln carrier strike group's maneuvers and flights.
The USS Abraham Lincoln arrived in the Middle East in January this year, and recently, the U.S. dispatched the USS Gerald R. Ford to the Middle East. The last time the U.S. deployed a "dual carrier" presence in the Middle East was in April of last year, when the Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group and the Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Group launched large-scale airstrikes against Houthi forces in Yemen.
On February 6, representatives from Iran and the U.S. held indirect negotiations in Muscat, the capital of Oman. Both sides agreed to continue negotiations, but significant differences remain on core issues. The second round of talks will be held on February 17 in Geneva, Switzerland.
