Saudi-led coalition claims interception of Yemeni Houthi missiles and drones
On October 1, Xinhua News Agency reported from Riyadh (Reporter Luo Chen) that Turki Al-Maliki, spokesperson for the Saudi Arabia-led coalition, stated on social media that the coalition intercepted and destroyed two ballistic missiles launched by the Yemeni Houthi forces towards the southwestern Saudi cities of Khamis Mushait and Jazan, as well as four drones launched towards Khamis Mushait on the same day.
Al-Maliki also mentioned that the coalition continues to take operational measures to deter the Yemeni Houthi forces.
The Saudi Civil Defense Authority issued a statement on the same day, saying that the Khamis Mushait Civil Defense Department dealt with an incident involving debris from a Houthi ballistic missile that was intercepted and fell into a residential area, causing damage to several buildings and some vehicles.
According to a statement released by Al-Maliki on social media that day, the Houthi forces used drones to attack a distribution station in Medina, Saudi Arabia, on September 29, resulting in one transformer shutting down, but it did not affect the operation of the power grid. The statement indicated that the investigation results and evidence such as drone wreckage showed that the Houthi forces planned and executed this attack.
On September 16, Al-Maliki disclosed that the Saudi air defense forces intercepted and destroyed a Houthi drone heading towards Mecca the night before. A member of the Houthi Political Bureau, Hizam Al-Asaad, posted on social media the same day, stating that the allegations regarding the Houthi forces using drones to attack Mecca are "lies."
On October 1, 2023, the Saudi-led coalition intercepted and destroyed two ballistic missiles and four drones launched by Houthi forces towards Khamis Mushait and Jazan. Debris from the intercepted missiles caused damage to buildings and vehicles in Khamis Mushait. The coalition continues to take operational measures to deter Houthi forces, following previous drone attacks on Saudi infrastructure.
