On March 6, Xinhua News Agency reported from Seoul (Reporter Huang Yingying) that as the military strikes against Iran continue, the United States is preparing to withdraw some of its forces stationed in South Korea to the Middle East.
The South Korean newspaper Dong-A Ilbo reported that the South Korean government believes the U.S. may formally request the withdrawal of some of its forces stationed in South Korea to the Middle East in a short period of time. The report cited multiple government sources saying that the U.S. forces in South Korea are making relevant preparations.
According to reports from Yonhap News Agency, the military equipment that may be deployed to the Middle East includes the Patriot missile system, Army Tactical Missile System, and Multiple Launch Rocket System, among others. The U.S. forces in South Korea stated that they are unable to disclose specific details regarding the transfer and redeployment of military forces.
Additionally, according to Yonhap News Agency, South Korean Foreign Minister Park Jin stated on the 6th that the South Korean side has not yet received any requests from the U.S. for military or non-military assistance to strike Iran. Regarding whether U.S. forces stationed in South Korea will be transferred, Park Jin said, "South Korea and the U.S. are maintaining close communication."
