Terrorist Attack in Northern Syria: One Security Personnel Dead and Three Injured
Xinhua News Agency, Damascus, June 15 (Reporter Lin Jianjie) - The Ministry of Interior of the Syrian Transitional Government issued a statement on the 15th, saying that the security forces of the Ministry of Interior thwarted a terrorist attack launched by the extremist organization "Islamic State" in the northern province of Raqqa that day, resulting in the death of one security personnel during the operation.
The statement said that the target of this terrorist attack was a command center of the security forces in Raqqa city, Raqqa province. Security personnel exchanged fire with two suicide attackers, killing one of them, while the other detonated the explosive vest he was wearing after being surrounded, leading to the death of one security personnel and injuries to three others.
Raqqa city was once occupied by the "Islamic State," becoming the stronghold of the extremist organization in Syria and its so-called "capital," which was recaptured in October 2017.
According to Syrian media reports, the "Islamic State" issued a statement on February 21, claiming that Syria has been "occupied by Turkey and the United States," and that the extremist organization has begun a "new round of operations" in Syria.
After the dramatic changes in the Syrian political situation in December 2024, the transitional government improved relations with the United States and joined the U.S.-led international coalition against the "Islamic State."
