The Arab League urges Israel to stop attacks on Lebanon.

Xinhua News Agency, Cairo, April 8 (Reporter Xu Haofu, Yao Bing) - The Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, issued a statement on the 8th welcoming the announcement of a ceasefire between the United States and Iran, while urging Israel to adhere to the relevant ceasefire arrangements and cease military actions against Lebanon.

The statement said that the U.S.-Iran ceasefire is a positive development in curbing the escalating situation in the Middle East and contributes to regional security and stability. Logically and realistically, the ceasefire arrangements should involve the issue of Lebanon. The Arab League demands that the United States pressure Israel to stop its military actions against Lebanon.

The statement pointed out that Iran must immediately and comprehensively cease hostile actions against Arab countries, open the Strait of Hormuz, and ensure the freedom of navigation and the security of energy supplies. At the same time, any future negotiation arrangements between the United States and Iran must respect the security interests and fundamental concerns of Gulf countries.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz confirmed on the 8th that Iran, the United States, and their respective allies have agreed to an immediate ceasefire at all locations, including Lebanon and other regions, effective immediately. The Israeli Prime Minister's Office issued a statement on the same day stating that Israel supports U.S. President Trump's decision for a two-week ceasefire with Iran, but the ceasefire does not include Lebanon. The Israel Defense Forces stated on the 8th that the Israeli military has carried out the "largest scale strike" against Hezbollah in Lebanon since the beginning of the U.S.-Israel-Iran conflict. Lebanese sources reported that Israeli airstrikes have resulted in hundreds of casualties.
