The J-15 piloted by Zhang Chao is publicly displayed for the first time!
Today, the Zhang Chao Memorial Hall opened in Qingdao, Shandong.
On April 27, 2016, while performing ground-based simulated landing training for the J-15 carrier-based fighter jet, Zhang Chao encountered a sudden electronic control failure. In a life-and-death moment of just 4.4 seconds, he gave up the best opportunity to eject and made every effort to save the aircraft, ultimately sacrificing his life at the age of 29.
The newly opened Zhang Chao Martyr Memorial Hall has an exhibition area of 800 square meters, with the main building's roof shaped like the "August 1" emblem, and the eaves extending to resemble the wings of a carrier-based fighter jet. The displayed J-15 carrier-based fighter jet No. 117 was piloted by Zhang Chao during his lifetime and is being publicly exhibited for the first time.
