The statement noted that this military communication channel had been suspended since the escalation of the Ukraine crisis in the fall of 2021. In recent trilateral talks held in Abu Dhabi, U.S. European Command Commander Alexis G. Greenkiewicz discussed with senior military officials from Russia and Ukraine and decided to restart the channel.
